What's the difference between drystone walling and mortared brickwork?
Drystone walling uses no mortar. Stones are selected and placed to interlock and support each other. It's a traditional craft that requires skill to do well and lasts for generations when built correctly. Mortared brickwork uses standard masonry mortar and is appropriate for retaining walls, steps, pool surrounds and structures needing greater rigidity.
Can you build retaining walls on sloped gardens?
Yes. Retaining walls are a core part of our work on sloped Surrey gardens. The wall specification (height, block or brick type, drainage behind the wall) depends on the height and loading it needs to handle.
Do you render blockwork walls?
