Garden Renovation in Surrey — Concept to Completion
We take on complete garden renovations in Surrey: concept to completion, every element built by the same team. No splitting the job between contractors.
What a complete garden renovation involves
A garden renovation in Surrey starts with a clear plan and ends when every element (hard landscaping, structures, soft landscaping and drainage) is finished to a standard we're confident in. Carmen Landscapes manages the entire build. Craig Carmen personally leads setting out and construction on every project.
The process begins with groundworks: stripping the old surface, addressing drainage, setting out levels and laying the correct base for whatever is going on top. Bad groundworks are the most common reason garden projects fail within a few years: cracking paving, sinking structures, waterlogged lawns. We don't cut corners at this stage.
From there we build outward: hard landscaping, structural carpentry, fencing, masonry, water features or pools if required, then turf and soft landscaping. The sequence is planned so each trade isn't waiting on another and the site progresses cleanly. See our project gallery for garden renovations we've completed, and read what homeowners say on our reviews page.

Why garden renovation in Surrey requires construction experience
Surrey gardens vary significantly. Many properties in Weybridge, Cobham and Esher have large plots with changes in level, clay soils that need careful drainage management, and existing structures (pools, walls, mature trees) that need working around. Getting this right requires genuine construction experience, not just horticultural knowledge. That's what Carmen Landscapes brings to every renovation project.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a complete garden renovation take?
It depends on the scope. A garden with new paving, lawn, fencing and planting might take two to three weeks. A project involving groundworks, a pool or significant structural work can run to several months. We'll give you a realistic programme before we start.
Do you handle the whole project or do I need to coordinate other trades?
We handle the full build. Groundworks, construction, hard landscaping, fencing, turf, carpentry, all done by the Carmen Landscapes team. You don't need to manage separate contractors.
Will you work with a design I already have?
Yes. If you have plans from a garden designer we can price and build from them. We can also design the project ourselves based on what you want to achieve.
Do I need planning permission for a garden renovation?
Most domestic garden works don't require planning permission, but some features (garden rooms, certain fencing heights, significant changes to drainage) can. We'll flag anything that needs checking before we start.
Can you work on gardens with difficult access or sloped ground?
Yes. Sloped gardens requiring terracing and retaining structures are a specialism. Tight access is something we plan around: we use compact plant where needed.
What areas of Surrey do you cover for garden renovation?
We're based in Walton-on-Thames and work across North Surrey: Weybridge, Esher, Cobham, Hersham, Shepperton, Sunbury-on-Thames, Woking and surrounding towns.
