Garden Landscaping in Surrey

Surrey gardens present a distinctive set of conditions. Clay soils dominate much of the county, particularly in the Thames Valley, and these expand and contract seasonally, which affects drainage, foundation design and how paving beds need to be prepared. Get this wrong and surfaces move. Get it right and they don't.

The county's varied ground, from heavy clay in places to made ground in others, with plenty of sloped and tight-access gardens, means levels and drainage have to be set to suit the site, not to a standard detail. We start every project from the ground up.

Properties across North Surrey tend to have generous plots and high expectations. These are homes where an outdoor swimming pool, a koi pond or a complete garden renovation is a realistic investment, and the standard of finish needs to match the property.

Carmen Landscapes has carried out garden landscaping across this geography for years. Craig Carmen has 21 years' hands-on experience and leads every project personally. Dean Carmen brings over 40 years in landscaping and groundworks. We handle the full scope, from groundworks and pools to ponds, paving, fencing, masonry and carpentry, without subcontracting the parts that matter. The team is small and consistent, so the people who start the groundworks are the people who finish the finishes.

We build, we don't just plant. As hard landscaping contractors we handle the structural side of a garden: excavation, drainage, foundations, paving, driveways, masonry, sleeper walls, steps, fencing and decking. Swimming pools and ponds too, from excavation and blinding through blockwork, rendered shell and lining.

Plenty of people search for landscape gardeners in North Surrey and mean exactly this kind of work. We take it on across Weybridge, Esher, Cobham, Hersham and Walton-on-Thames, and the same approach applies wherever the garden is. We do not offer garden maintenance or mowing.

Most of our work is complete garden renovation rather than a single trade in isolation: a full build from groundworks up. We build every element ourselves: groundworks, drainage, patios, driveways, walls, decking, pools and ponds. We don't subcontract the parts that matter, and we don't do garden maintenance or mowing. A garden renovation might combine a new patio and driveway, a retaining wall across a level change, a deck off the back of the house and a lawn, all set out before we start so the levels work.

For a garden that needs design before construction, we can produce the layout ourselves, led by what's actually buildable. The full scope of what we build is on our services page, including our landscape construction service, and you can read what Surrey homeowners say about our work on our reviews page.
